This species can be expected in practically any wet forest and rainforest and also in relatively exposed sub-alpine areas where there is sufficient humidity. In the latter instance, plants are usually tinged red.
It is also an extremely adaptable species, being able to occupy numerous substrate types (eg, bark, logs, ground etc) provided that there is sufficient humidity.
The fan-like leaf distinguish this species from others.
